Planning To Attend Essence Festival 2014 In New Orleans? Start With Our Guide

2014 Essence Festival planners have been distributing information about summer meeting in New Orleans, but it's not too early to think about attending. A powerful musical training and inspiring speakers drew thousands to the 2013 edition - and this year is shaping up to be as strong. New Orleans hopes legions of visitors and locals out of town to celebrate the richness of African American culture during the four-day festival.

Here is the breakdown :

What: A music and culture festival that includes daytime empowerment sessions with speakers and panels; Outdoor event "Family Reunion" ; and evening concerts by a number of artists such as Prince , Mary J. Blige, Lionel Richie and Jill Scott

Where: Three locations in the heart of New Orleans. Empowerment seminars and market are in the Ernst N. Morial Convention Center, 900 Convention Center Blvd.; evening concerts are at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Sugar Bowl Drive Event 1500 Family Reunion taking place on the bank of river in Woldenberg Park 1 Canal St.

When: The 2014 Essence Festival starts on Thursday, July 3 and ends late in the evening of the Sun, July 06 Daytime activities at the Convention Center beginning at 9 am . . . . July 3 to 5 at 8 am and 6 July. Planner’s essence has not released a date for the meeting of the family in the festival's website, but is expected to start at noon, and ends with a fireworks display over the Mississippi River. Evening concerts at the Mercedes- Benz Superdome are July 4-6. Doors open at 6 pm

Admission: single night tickets will be on sale in the weeks prior to the party. Currently, ticket packages are available weekend. Ticket packages start at $ 150. For more information and to purchase tickets Events during the day at the Convention Center and Woldenberg Park are free.

Safety: large bags will be searched upon entry to all venues, including the Superdome, Convention Center and Woldenberg Park, the venue of the Meeting Family Day.

Parking: Parking is available at the Convention Center and Superdome and surface lots and ramps in the area. Prices vary for popular events.

Hotels and Travel: Essence Festival expects to announce the preferred hotels in the near future, but if you cannot wait, the Convention and Visitors Bureau of New Orleans has a lot of information, including a directory of hotels.

Getting around: Essence Fest places are within walking distance to the guests staying in the French Quarter and the central business district. For those in outlying areas, public transportation is available. The Regional Transit Authority operates trams and buses.
